Computer Died

Well I came home from work and my computer stopped working. So far my only conclusion is my video card because I cant seem to get a video display to come on. When I pulled out the card I noticed a popped capacitor. And of course I bought it 1 year and 1 month ago so it is not in warranty anymore. BAH.. I figure I have about a month I can do without a computer. With all the going to the gym for this competition, haven’t found much time to go on it anyways.

Down 3 lbs… Weigh in Wednesday.

BlueRay vs. HD DVD

BlueRay vs. HD DVDWell for Christmas this year I received an Xbox360 with an HD DVD Player. I was thrilled that I could not watch movies in full 1080p on my new TV, we went out and bought many HD DVD’s. I am still very happy with my player. I love the quality. But with all the moves BlueRay has made since Christmas, I now wonder what the life of my HD DVD player is.

I have been a proponent of HD DVD winning based simply on the fact that with identical video quality, that the winner would go to the format which can make the media cheapest to make and which format would have devices cheap enough to encourage people to buy. Currently, HD DVD is winning this battle. However with the latest news that Warner Brothers and the Porn industry have moved to BlueRay, that put a scar on my theory. But now, according to Tech.co.uk :

Cost savings come from a simpler manufacturing process that will yield dividends in mass production, while other features include the ability to handle dual-layer BDs and disks with organic dye in the recording layers. Organic disks can be churned out from existing DVD production lines, so it’s a win-win situation here.

Well now BlueRay will be able to make the media cheaper and this will also drive the cost of BlueRay player. To what extent, this is not known. What is known though is HD DVD better come out with something, and it better be big, everybody is jumping on the BlueRay wagon right now. And I am not talking like just a little more than before. I am talking like nearly 95% of the sales after the announcement have gone in BlueRays direction.

Will this be the first “Sony made” format that wins the popularity battle? I am not calling the time of death of HD DVD quite yet, but I think HD DVD has gone to the hospital with heart problems.

Fusioncrew.org is redesigned

Well after a long hard week of designing/coding/modding/installing/filling the fusioncrew.org website I think it is just about done. Done enough to be called live and complete. There are a few more things that I am looking to do on it but for right now I need a break from it. I migrated over the front end to Joomla from wordpress because it just made more sense for a CMS rather than a blog system on the front page. I was also able to integrate the logins between Joomla and phpbb which was a big plus. Their framework for plugins and 3rd party customization is unsurpassed. I have probably spent a good 25 hours this week on customizing it to the way that I like it. I even had my lovely wife make a new logo cause I am graphically challenged. I also spent alot of time on getting the Joomla default search to search my standalone install of phpbb which was not easy. Luckily I found some code that was meant for the phpbb component and modded it to work for a standalone version. Ahh well, its been crazy. For those of you who don’t know about the site.. go ahead and check it out. http://www.fusioncrew.org.

Computer died

My friggin computer died yesterday.. just spend all day getting it back to the way that I like it. You don’t really realize it until you have to do it all over again… just how many settings you change to get your desktop back to the way it was before. Well I think I am almost done but now I may be doing it all over again. My server is completely maxed out, it cant take it any more. My server is actually my first computer. It started out a 750k7 processor with 256 megs of ram and a 20 gig hard drive. It has since then moved to 1.3GHz Duron with 768megs of ram and a raid 0 80 gig array with about 100 gigs of non raid storage. Everything is completely maxed out. nothing can be upgraded higher, all ports are full.. SO.. I am going to upgrade. I am going to buy a new motherboard, processor, and ram and move my server to this box that I am on which can be upgraded to atleast an athlon 3200 and 2 gigs of ram.. that should last a little while longer.

What does all this mean.. well this means that not only will I be installing my desktop again when I get my new parts but I will also be migrating my domain controller to a new system. This system also included Exchange Server, 4 websites, 6 MySQL databases and a slew of other services that run my network. On top of that I will be gearing up and trying out CMS’s for my net site lazynetworkadmin.com. Sometime.. I think I need to get a life away from the computer…

Quest for CMS

I am on a quest for the perfect CMS outfit out there. I have tried a number of different ones including phpnuke, postnuke and phpwebsite which seem to be the biggest big wigs out there, and have tried a number of other ones too and so far I am not really impressed with any of them out there.. phpnuke seems to forum boardish, postnuke just doesnt feel right.. the admin panel has left alot to be desired and phpwebsite, whereas it offers alot.. it is very limited in what it can do.. with that being said.. I am kinda leaning towards phpwebsite so far unless I can find another that just blows me away. All of this is for my new site lazynetworkadmin.com. I definately own too many domains. This site is going to be a one stop shop for links to the most helpful network admin information out there along with articles which I will create which will explain how to do different things. All too often I come across something that would be sooo easy if only the right information was available.. my quest is to make it available.. Well we will see how it goes..

Lightbox.js and Zenphoto

Ok so in response to all the posts I keep on running into regarding lightbox.js integration, I decided to make a theme for everyone.. it works alright.. well it works.. after implementing it.. I actually don’t like at and wont put it to use on any of my sites.. now…. i think this would be an excellent addition to a plugin for wordpress which I have been trying to work on but I massivly suck at writing my own code but I am working on something.. we will see if anything actually comes out of it. With that being said.. here is the release of the Chili-Light theme.. I may modd it a little more to give it some different colors to complete the theme but I figured I would get it out there since everybody was screaming about it. I have tested it on IE6, Firefox, and Safari and it works on all 3. Please let me know if it doesn’t work on others, however keep in mind that you may be able to troubleshoot it as well as I can.

Note: Be aware that because of how this works.. commenting no longer does. It makes no sense to add this to the image page.. it would be useless

Here is the demo: http://beta.chilifrei.net/zenphoto

Here is the Official theme with Lightbox.js: Chili-Light_Official.zip

And incase you don’t like my colors,
Here is the default theme with Lightbox.js: Chili-Light_Default.zip

Hope you all like it..
