The Secret Fountain of Magical Metabolism

So today I want to talk to you about metabolism. This has come up several times now and today I just went over the edge. I am sick and tired of people who can’t control their weight saying to me “I wish I had metabolism like you”. If I have such a great metabolism, why do I have to spend several hours in the gym EVERY WEEK just to get myself BACK DOWN to a healthy weight. How did I end up needing to be in TWO biggest loser competitions at work within ONE YEAR just to get down to where I am today(and have enough fat on me to win both of them too). Why is it that I eat crappy cheese that DOESN’T MELT because it is better for me. Or why do I have to go WAY OUT OF MY WAY to buy healthy food if my metabolism is so freaking awesome. If my metabolism is so great, why do I need to do SO MANY THINGS in order to maintain a healthy weight. Its like a gosh darn full time job.

So, I want to take this time to re-phrase the comment. Next time say “I wish I had YOUR DETERMINATION because I just can’t seem to MOTIVATE MYSELF to get healthy the way YOU HAVE THE ABILITY TO DO”

When I became a fat blob of a person I decided I was going to do something about it, and I did it. I am proud of my accomplishment and I hate that people try to discredit my accomplishments because they think I have found the secret fountain of magical metabolism.

A healthy lifestyle is hard work and it’s apparent you haven’t been working very hard.

First 5k in 10 years

So today I ran my first 5k race since High School 11th grade. Because, and I haven’t mentioned this yet, I started up another Biggest Loser competition at work again. This one is gonna be for 8 weeks though.. I really don’t think I am gonna win this time but this is beside the point. Because I have started this competition and it was gonna be for 8 weeks, I needed something to help keep me motivated for the first couple weeks. I decided to take up running and work toward a race. It was the Brooksie Way Half Marathon & 5K Run/Walk. I of course ran the 5k. Now, back in high school, my personal best was 18:52. My average was in the mid 19’s. My worst was 25:40 something. That was in Algonac, through the woods, after it rained for several days. We were running in knee deep muddy watter in that race. With that being said, I gave myself a modest goal. Get under 30 min. I had already been having pretty intense workouts for the last 3 weeks and have been running for 2 weeks.

Well the race today was where it all came together.

I’m happy with this..

Laura ran the race with me and she got a great time as well at 25:21. It was nice for Jackie because for the first time she was allowed to be a spectator of a race as opposed to being in it.

As for the biggest loser competition. I am down 10lbs to 171. Yes I gained back a lot of my previous weight. But I am back down to where I was and now I have another 5 weeks to go in this. We’ll see where it ends up

Weight Update

Well I am just over 2 weeks into this whole Biggest Loser thing with some people at work. So far, from everything I have heard, I seem to be the leader. I have lost a total of 8lbs. That was when I weighed myself at work, fully clothed. So I went from 186 to 178. Jackie and I have the side bet. I got down 9lbs there, from 180 to 171, neked. That was Saturday. I have came back up a pound here on Sunday. I hope to lose atleast 3 more lbs by the time this finishes. That will take me down to 168.

Even with that, yes I am looking better, but I have actually lost a lot of weight in other areas I didn’t think I would lose weight in. So I still have a lot of work to do around the waist still but this is a very good start. I am happy with where I am at. My sister the other day actually said she didn’t think I could get down to 168. That helped me to a great workout the next day, which after my workout I weighted 171. I I like it when people keep doubting me because I am soooo stubborn that I use it to my advantage and turn that into motivation so I can prove them wrong.  So keep doubting me everyone. Please..

Tigers Opening Day tomorrow. Gonna head down there at 9am to get my drink on. GO TIGERS!!!

Tigers Tickets

Today, Paul, Ryan and I all woke up early and headed downtown to go get some Detroit Tigers tickets. We thought we were going to be ahead of the game by going down there early. So we woke up at 4 and headed out there only to find out that they were doing the whole wristband thing. So we got our wristband and we could not get in line until 8, so we went to the casino. Paul went ahead and owned the slot machine and came back with an extra 200 bucks while Ryan and I watched.

Once we got there we were wrapped about 1/4 the way around the stadium and the line wasnt moving all that fast. We were in line for about 4.5 hours waiting for tickets. The whole way up we thought for sure they would be sold out of the games we wanted. Lucky for us.. they weren’t. We ended up with 9 games and in all but 1 we are all sitting next to each other. Not bad.. Next year though.. prolly gonna get partial seasons and sell the ones we dont want..

Opening Day 2007

Well the Detroit Tigers started off the 2007 Baseball season with a loss. But it wasn’t all bad. My friend Paul had an extra ticket and decided to take me along. It was only my 3rd Baseball game I had been to. And what better than opening day. We started early and left my house at 8A.M. and actually made it inside of Cheli’s Chili Bar and opened the first beer at 9:06 AM. Yes I know.. I did not open any beers but my friends did.. I had my sissy drinks cause I dont drink beer. We hung out and Cheli’s for a while and a few beers and Geager bombs later we headed off to the stadium. It was pretty awesome being there. We were up in the upper deck and the sun was just beating down. There wasnt a cloud in the sky. We all got a little sunburned but that comes with the territory I guess. But it was a great time and of course… Pictures

Halloween

Well Halloween has come and gone and it is November now. For the Halloween weekend we went to a costume party at Randy and Heather’s. Pictures for those are here.

Me and a bunch of friends have been getting together on Sunday’s to play football, nice there is no good local football on TV. That has been a blast.. I find that I am much slower than I was in high school but I am still in pretty good shape condition wise. However, my body just cannot take the beating. I have bruised ribs and a tweaked ankle. But it has been fun. Jackie and I handed out Halloween candy to the neighborhood kids. More than last year but still not all that many kids. Everyone liked our McDonalds Fries costumes. We even dressed up our cat Chewie as a ketchup bottle. All pictures can be found in the gallery. Hope you all enjoy.
